Samuel D Simpson

On January 2, 1981, Samuel D. S. Simpson; founder of Simpson’s Funeral Home; graduated from work to reward. His life stands as a testament to faith, perseverance, and visionary leadership in funeral service within Trinidad and Tobago.

Born in 1911 in Barbados, W.I., Samuel was the last of sixteen children. He arrived in Trinidad as a young carpenter with only thirty-six cents, yet with unwavering determination and God-given vision, he built a legacy of service and enterprise that continues to shape the profession today.

Guided by his enduring motto, “The People Who Care,” Samuel D. S. Simpson established a standard of compassion, professionalism, and excellence that became the cornerstone of Simpson’s Funeral Home—a mantra that continues to define the organization to this day.

Driven by excellence and an uncompromising standard of care, his vision led to the establishment of fully functional funeral homes across the nation, including:

Through these facilities, Simpson’s Funeral Home served the people of Trinidad and Tobago with precision, dignity, and efficiency, setting benchmarks in professional funeral operations and community service.

A pioneer in both enterprise and education, Samuel D. S. Simpson was instrumental in advancing funeral service as a profession. Under his leadership and influence, the nation welcomed its first female Qualified Funeral Director in the late 1960's. A decade later he added a second generation Qualified Embalmer. Two additional formally qualified funeral professionals graced the ranks of his third generation, one of whom is internationally licensed and recognized. His commitment to training, standards, and professional development elevated funeral service from a trade to a respected calling.

We reflect with gratitude on his courage, discipline, and foresight. His life’s work laid a foundation that cannot be replicated—only honored and advanced. Today, his legacy remains alive and well through the third generation, continuing to serve families with the same compassion, excellence, and integrity he exemplified.

We give thanks to God for the privilege of being a part of his bloodline. We pray that he is resting peacefully, and by God’s grace, we hold fast to the hope that we will see him again in glory.
